We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Development based in our Mississauga ON office.

The successful candidate is an energetic and eager Real Estate Development professional with at least 7 - 10 years of progressive experience gained in successful multi-site retail franchise organizations, the position requires a high degree of energy, enthusiasm, outgoing personality, technical competence and professionalism.  

In this position you will be responsible for leading store count growth and the development of the company across Canada through the implementation of strategies for real estate and land acquisition with a view to achieve short, medium and long-term growth objectives of our organization. 

Specifically, we are seeking a Director of Development who develops professional relationships with ease, is a hands-on problem solver and possesses solid analytical skills. You will pay attention to details and you are a skilled negotiator.  


Key responsibilities include: 

  • Support identified target areas of store count growth based on Mr Lube’s growth plan
  • With your strong background in retail development, you will leverage your existing Broker, Developer and Landlord relationships to procure new sites for Mr Lube
  • Oversee Negotiations of and management of all lease renewals and extensions.
  • Track lease expiration and option notice dates and ensure timely management of all open store lease files.
  • Provide support to Real Estate department and franchisees on all property management matters, including lease interpretation and landlord coordination.
  • Contract administration
  • Communicate with Landlord representatives to gather site specific information pre construction
  • Analyze site plans and coordinate with Landlord designers to ensure accuracy
  • Develop and nurture relationships with existing and prospective Landlords, brokers, municipalities and other major tenants through meetings, industry functions and telephone calls.
  • Oversee timing of, and request Tenant Improvement Allowance payment from Landlords
  • Maintains a positive relationship with the Franchisee,
  • Collaborate with the construction team to ensure all needs are met before, during and after construction of new stores.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the VP of Development



  • Minimum of 7 - 10 years previous experience in a Retail Real Estate position, within a retail or landlord/development organization.
  • Proven track record of new store count growth in retail environment.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have previous experience working in a retail environment.
  • Must have experience working with legal documentation and commercial lease interpretation.
  • Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Familiarity with GIS is an asset.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout Canada.
